TPLA 2013 Participants Share Their Race Day Stories

It was great to have a good showing for Team Albert - 6 of us did the 5k.

My mom and dad were there in spirit - as you know my dad is unable to travel anymore.

It was encouraging to hear Jeffrey's speech (UCLA) with the promising research going on. We must find better treatments and hopefully a cure soon!
Thanks for all that you do!

Team Martinez had a blast at the 5K! There is always so much energy and joy there.  It's wonderful to see so many people running/walking for Team Parkinson.

We were missing our dad, Arnulfo and our brothers, Arnie & Danny, but my 3 sisters (Maria, Luisa & Mary Lou), nieces (Maia & Makayla), nephews (Marcos & Mark), my husband John & I were there to represent Team Martinez.  As always, it's great to see you and John and on behalf of our father and family we thank you for all you do.

We look forward to seeing you again next year!

We so enjoyed being a part of this amazing weekend, and Team Parkinson.  My own personal reflection is this:

Being newly diagnosed with Parkinson's I have felt a bit of a victim to/of the disease -  but this event and being a part of the Team and the 5K walk  moved me to realize " I want to be a part of the solution rather than the "problem" of the disease and it's effects.  Thank you Team Parkinson for being so welcoming and encouraging to us "first time participants."

With gratitude and hope renewed,
Sherry C.

Had a great time and already looking forward to next year.

Dear Friends, Family and All-around Rock Stars:

We wanted to send a note of thanks for your generous support of Team Parkinson.  This past weekend was full of events that were exciting and inspiring.  First, our team raised.....(drum roll).....a whopping $8,000 this year, 100% of which goes to fund research!  The broader Team Parkinson raised over $75,000 around the LA Marathon.  This is an amazing result and we cannot thank you enough for your contribution.  And even more, for your shows of support --- it has been overwhelming.

It was an action packed weekend - we walked the 5K and accepted an award for "top fundraising team" at the Team Parkinson annual dinner on Saturday!   We had two "firsts", with Rissa finishing her first marathon in 5hrs 3mins and Alex his first half marathon (on an injured ankle)!  And we had two PRs, with Summer finishing the marathon in 4hrs 3mins and Darren the half in 2hrs flat.  As our dear friend (Jenny Schwarz) would say, we crushed it!

We are already looking forward to 2014!  With appreciation and love,

John, Diana, Summer and Rissa

Team Parkinson as a whole is inspiring, as are each of the individual people I met on Saturday. It must be true!! My take on my dad's likelihood of finishing the 5K was that he didn't really believe he could do it. But, riding the wave of the group, with the company of Sarah who stuck with us the whole way, and with a healthy dose of the stubborn passed on to him by his parents, he did it. I was even more proud of him Saturday than I think I was when, together, he and I finished the whole marathon 20 years ago.

Thanks for all you do!!
