2nd Annual Team Parkinson Golf Classic - 08/06/2007

Approximately 90 Golfers from all over Southern California participated in the 2nd Annual Team Parkinson Golf Classic, held once again at the beautiful Friendly Hills Country Club on July 16th, 2007. The weather could not have been better and there was plenty of delicious food and cold libations to make it a perfect day on the course.

The top score was a net 56 - 14 under par for the Scramble format on a tough FHCC course - sometimes called “Unfriendly Hills” due to its tight fairways and fast greens. The 1st place team was comprised of Andrew Bunnin, Dave Solomon, Mark Anten and Chad Gahr (Chad also won the long drive contest and a closes to the pin contest on the par 3 8th hole). The 2nd place trophies were awarded to Curtis Lew, Mike Wong, Randy Tanaka and Richard Yuki who fired a very respectable score of 10 under par 60. For the second year in a row, the team that included John Ball and Dan Kiefer - both of whom have Parkinson's Disease - shot a round in the 70s!

A new addition to the TP Golf Classic was Cherie Zaun, a former LPGA pro, who was the pro on our “Beat the Pro” hole – the difficult par-3 13th. Only 4 players were able to get inside of Cherie’s tee shot all day long. Players bet $20 and if they got inside of Cherie’s shot, they doubled their money. For the majority of the players who made the wager, their money was gladly donated to the cause. On her way out, Cherie was quoted as saying “Count me in for next year…”

Post-tournament festivities included a raffle, a silent auction, dinner (where attendance doubled from last year) and the awards ceremony. Dr. Giselle Petzinger spoke about how important fundraising is to the Parkinson’s research effort – this made everyone feel that they were doing something truly important, not just playing golf. John Ball gave a heart-felt, inspirational speech that clearly moved everyone in the audience.

Thanks to all tee sign sponsors and all of those who participated. A special thanks to our Silver Sponsors: Clear Channel Communications and The Grossman Burn Center. Finally, thanks to Friendly Hills Country Club for being a fantastic host. A very big thank you to Andrew Bunnin and Donna Tetreault, the entire Tetreault family and all the volunteers for all their hard work in making this event a success.

We look forward to continuing to grow this event in 2008. Don't miss the 3rd Annual Team Parkinson Golf Classic next year!
