The 1st Annual Team Parkinson Golf Classic was a huge success! - 05/25/2006

Team Parkinson Golf Classic

May 15, 2006

Approximately 64 Golfers from all over Southern California participated in the event at Friendly Hills Country Club on May 15th. The top score was a net 59 - 11 under par for the Scramble format on a tough FHCC course - that score was registered by two teams. The 1st place team who won in a "card off" (the best score on the back nine) was comprised of Dean Catalano, Molly Murphy, Steve Ross and Bill Finkelstein (one of only three teams with a woman player). The 2nd place trophies were awarded to Tony LoCoscio, Babby Hall and Nick Mosquites (Nick also won the long drive contest, the putting contest and one of the Closest to the Pin contests!!!). The 3rd place team was Rich Mylin, Todd Curry, Randy Ulrey and Jeff Hamilton with a solid score of 60 (10 under par). Perhaps the most amazing golfing effort was turned in by the team that included John Ball and Dan Kiefer - both of whom have Parkinson's Disease, but still got out there and fired a round in the 70s!

After the tournament there was a raffle (highlighted by several golfers buying blocks of 300 tickets which made for an entertaining search to find the winning ticket on several occasions), a silent auction and a live auction featuring NBC 4's Fritz Coleman. Fritz did an outstanding job of entertaining the crowd with some hilarious comedy and then helped to raise over $4,000 from a lively group of bidders in the live auction. The top fundraising item was a pair of gloves signed by The Greatest himself, none other than Muhammad Ali. The gloves were generously donated by Ali's first child, May May Ali (THANKS AGAIN MAY MAY!) and went for $1,500!

Thanks to all of the tee sign sponsors and all of those who participated. A special thanks to our Silver Sponsors: Davis Glick Entertainment and The Grossman Burn Center. Finally, thanks to Friendly Hills Country Club for being a fantastic host. A very big thank you to Andrew Bunnin and Donna Tetreault, the entire Tetreault family and all the volunteers for all their hard work in making this event a success.

The tournament helped Team Parkinson cross the $200,000 mark for funds raised in 2006. We look forward to an even bigger golf event in 2007. Don't miss the 2nd Annual Team Parkinson Golf Classic next year!
